These are pictures taken from our bus window, as we were driving past Hadrian's Wall, which was a defensive fortification of the Roman's that began way back in 122 AD. This wall is 73 miles long, and also served as a place of trade.
I loved sharing this beautiful piece of history with my mom.
It was also so much fun having my sister Tiffany and her husband Colby there with us.
...and Hank Smith and his wife Sara!!! ;)
My cute hubby, inserting himself front and center to learn all he could about the history!!!
He LOVES history!
I can't remember a lot about the details of this wall, but I'm pretty sure that Clint is standing in "the pooping corner." ;)
One of the coolest things about seeing Hadrian's Wall, was getting to see the famous Sycamore Gap Tree that was nestled down in a small valley of the wall. It was the same famous tree that was in the movie Braveheart, starring Mel Gibson.
Sadly, just a few weeks after we were here on our visit, someone had "felled" the tree in a single act of vandalism, and the tree no longer stands there.
I am so glad that we got to be there and see it!
After our visit at Hadrian's Wall, we rode the bus to the Roman Vindolanda, which was a historical site where they are still actively digging and finding many ancient artifacts today.
They were digging while we were there!
This was such a beautiful place to see AND a yummy place for lunch!
