Simplot Games

Gavin and his friend Bryan made it to the Simplot Games!
Everyone arrived Thursday night, slept over and went to the Holt Arena early Friday morning.
After everyone competed in their events, Gavin called to inform me that he qualified for the finals!!!!
This was so awesome because we didn't know if he would since the starting height for the high jump was 5'11"!
Gavin you BEAST!!!
He cleared 5'11" and was the only one from his school to advance. His coach was SO proud of him, especially because this was his first athlete to ever advance at the Simplot Games.
Since Clint and I are on our way to the Dominican Republic, Uncle Curt and Aunt Sara drove him back up to Idaho State University for the Saturday competition.
Gavin set a new P.R. in his high jump there and cleared 6 feet!!! GO GAVIN!!!
We are so proud of you for getting out there and giving this your all, especially since this is your first year ever even trying this sport! I love that you are not afraid to try new things, even if they might seem hard. You can accomplish anything you set your mind too!
I took a few screen shots of his jump from the Marco Polo video that Curt sent to the family...

After they were finished, Curt and Sara took Gavin out to eat, and shared with us a video of Gavin with his medal. Seriously Gavin, YOU ROCK!!!

Jeannette Shires Broadhead 1953-2023

My dear friend Jeannette Broadhead passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday February 4, 2023 at the age of 70.
Jeannette had a fun and spunky spit-fire personality, and the whit and humor that would make anyone smile. We grew close in our relationship over the years that I served as the relief society president, and as I sat with her and tried to lovingly serve her, she ministered to me in a very Christ like way with her listening ear and tender and heartfelt remarks.
I felt privileged to help set up the display at her funeral where her family and friends could smile and reminisce on the things that Jeannette loved to do...gardening, camping, rock hunting, and making memories with her son Bryan who cared for her so much of her later life.

Bryan along with his girlfriend Chelsee became good friends as well as we leaned on each other for help and support, and most of all a good laugh every now and again...
I enjoyed watching the good care that Bryan gave to his mother, and felt so blessed to know that she had such a sweet son to look after her.
I enjoyed sitting by her bedside daily with my good friend Emily while we would have Bryan step out of the house for a break and some fresh air...those were cherished and priceless moments that I am so grateful to have in my heart.
In honor of Jeannette, the mortuary handed out little mementos of the time in the garden that Jeannette loved so much. It was a sweet gesture with a beautiful picture of Jeanette in her younger years. What a beautiful girl!
Bryan and Chelsee, thank you for loving Jeannette and for all of your selfless service to her over the years. You are wonderful examples of Christ like love, and your sweet momma will be greatly missed!
We love you Jeannette, until we meet again.

Valentine's Day 2023

I LOVE Valentine's Day! What better reason to celebrate life than to have a specific reason to tell all the people you love, just HOW  MUCH you love them!!! :)
(I mean honestly, Clint always says that we don't need Valentine's day because we show that kind of love in our family everyday. He just thinks that's the way it should be! And I agree. ;) But it's still fun to have another reason to celebrate and have fun! So, we started our celebrating last Friday morning when there was no school for the kids and we took them out to brunch at a place called Sunday's Best. The vibe there was like a So Cal beachy, movie star type feel, honestly. The food was delicious, and the girls LOVED it. (Gavin was also supposed to be there, but ended up missing the reservation because him and his friends were doing baptisms at the temple, but it took a lot longer than they anticipated.)
We also took the kids (and our friend Paige since Grandpa was in Florida still) to the Hale Center theater on Monday night for the comedy "See How They Run." ~ Another fun night with people we love. :)
Then yesterday, I spent the day making candy bar wrappers for a King sized Hershey bar, with a note inside of them for all of the young single and young married adults in our ward. Kambriella and Kesslyn helped me deliver them to everyone as soon as they got home from school.
Then, the girls wanted to exchange Valentine's, and it was so sweet watching them share their words and their feelings and gifts with each other...
Kesslyn had made everyone in the family their own special Valentine, and Kambriella had begged me to buy a stuffed animal for her to give to Kesslyn, and it made her SO happy! I really think for how happy Kesslyn was yesterday, that Valentine's Day might be her new favorite holiday! She was just SO thrilled to give everyone in her class a treat, and she spent a good amount of time when she got home going through every single Valentine that she had received, one by one, and telling us all about it. It really was so cute to watch how happy she was. I think she really felt loved.
I also gave each of the kids a Valentine, too!
A gift card, soda and treats for Gavin, some treats and art supplies for Kambriella, and a treat and puppy for Kesslyn. They loved them and they were so grateful.
Gavin won first prize for the family in dressing up for the special day of love...but mostly because the basketball game at the high school was a "pink out" for Valentine's Day! (Yes, those are MY jeans, and Kambriella's sunglasses...;)
And my good friend Laura made me some yummy chocolate dipped, heart-shaped strawbeberries for a treat..."From one Wonder Woman to Another"
I love that girl!
And finally, Clint and I had a dinner date at the Red Rock Brewery, which has such YUMMY food!
I had the Sweet Potato Cannelloni which I had never tried before and it was literally AMAZING. I cannot wait to go back and have it again!
This lover's holiday was definitely a special day, but Clint and I will REALLY get to celebrate each other this coming weekend when we leave on our trip to the Dominican Republic!
We specifically tried to spend time with all of the people we love so that we could focus the time on our trip as "OUR" time. We look forward to a little getaway like this every February, and the timing is never better. We NEED this time away to shut out the rest of the world and focus on each other for a minute, and we can't wait to go! Just 3 more days until we leave!
Happy Valentine's Day my love! Today, in the Dominican Republic, and EVERYDAY!

Lots of Snow and a Birthday Girl

Over the weekend we did some much needed snow removal at our cabin! After all of the winter storms that we've had, we really needed to get up to the property and plow and shovel. So we did!
Gavin tackled the feet of icy snow off of the back deck (literally ;), while Clint plowed the long driveway with the tractor....
Kambriella tried out the new snow shoes that I bought for Clint and I while Kesslyn used the snowed over stairs as a makeshift sledding hill!
After a bit of her sledding there, I had to use a pick axe to break away the large icy snow chunks from off of the stairs! There was SO MUCH SNOW!!
We also spotted this cute little deer family playing together near a creek in Bountiful on Sunday...
We had an amazing spirit filled lesson in relief society...
AND...it was my beautiful daughter Kierra's 25th birthday on the 11th.
I love this old picture of Clint with all of his girls! We are the luckiest parents in the world to have these 3 beautiful daughters to share this life with. I love you Kierra! Happy Birthday sweet girl!

Flying Kites In Brazil

"Let's - Go - Fly - A - Kite!"
...On a P-Day in Brazil!
I talked with Dallin again today since it was his p-day, and he is still just as happy as could be out there "doing his job" (as he would say;) serving the Lord.
Dallin, your happiness is contagious! Keep working hard and doing good things!!!
We LOVE you!!!

A Little Love

I love this quote from Ezra Taft Benson because I KNOW this is true! I have seen it, and continue to see it manifest itself in my life constantly. I love my Heavenly parents and my Savior Jesus Christ, and feel their goodness and presence in my life when I choose to be close to them.

Also, last night we made a trip to the Insta-care for Gavin after he took a major blow in his basketball game. Him and about 5 other boys all jumped high in the air for the ball when Gavin was knocked hard from about 7 feet up in the air until his head slammed the floor.
It was SCARY. I watched it happen and immediately thought he was going to be injured...but thank goodness he wasn't!
I thought it was so sweet how all of Gavin's friends started showing up at the house when we got home to check on him, see if he was ok, and even bring him lots of yummy treats! What good friends.
He even said, "maybe I should get hurt more often?"  ;)
Please don't Gavin.
Or at least if you have to, do it like this where you end up being ok!
So grateful for blessings, miracles, doctors, good outcomes, and people who love my kids!

A Service Chain

Kesslyn really loves going to her Activity Days!
For Valentine's Day they decorated sugar cookies and made a small craft called a Service Chain.
Everyday leading up to Valentine's Day she gets to tear off a link of the chain and do whatever is written on the chain to do. "Give your grandpa a hug" or "help make dinner"...
Such a sweet activity for such sweet girls!
We love you Kesslyn!

Happy 30th Birthday Riley!

Happy Birthday to my favorite son-in-law!!!
Happy 30th birthday Riley!!!
To the one who knows how to play hard, ride hard, work hard, and laugh hard...
You are an amazing guy that we feel so blessed to have joined our family. I hope that your 30th birthday is special and memorable, especially living and celebrating in Hawaii!
