Sunday, August 23rd was our family's first Sunday back to church in 5 and a half months.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic shut down everything we have been thoroughly enjoying enjoying Home Church together, but it was nice to see some of the friendly faces that we have missed!
This special Sabbath Day was also our family's Back to School Celebration!
I had been preparing some special things for our family...
After receiving some personal revelation and direction for these sweet kids, I decided to make our family's theme for this school year, "Minister Like Angels."
I bought a small angel Moroni pin for each person to pin to their back pack as a reminder to minister like an angel throughout their day.
Clint helped me set a nice table and we wrapped up these pins with a bracelet and a picture, a different one for each child...
These beautiful water color paintings were a soft reminder of what ministering can look like, and we plan to discuss these in greater depth tonight for FHE...but they are also for the kids to put wherever they choose as yet another reminder to minister like an angel.
In their little gift was also a bracelet with a card to "Be the Good" and to "Let Your Light Shine."
This one below is Kambriella's.
We have all discussed what this school year may look like, and together we are prepared to minister to anyone, anywhere. Teachers, friends, parents, kids, bullies...you name it, and we want to help.
I truly believe that THIS is why my children are out in the public school system...to be a leader, a light, and a missionary. The schools are yet another "training ground" for what lies ahead.
There are opportunities all around us to do good, and I feel like my kids are so good at that.
They have been saved for this time and I'm excited to see them in action.
Dallin helped me with hanging up the lights and making this a sacred space. We all gathered around the table and enjoyed a delicious meal as we discussed our families theme for the year.
This conversation of course was not without bursts of brotherly jokes and laughter, because we also had Carew's mission companion (and now roommate at BYU) with us for the evening.
There is definitely never a dull moment around here with this bunch. ;)
I loved how people talked about serving selflessly, being prepared spiritually at all times so that when you are called upon you are ready, worthy, and willing...
I loved the comments about how when we live worthily, others who do not have the gift of the gospel in their lives will be blessed simply by being in our presence and feeling the hope and the Spirit that we carry.
I really really loved the comments about how ministering and service are most effective AND important within our own family, ESPECIALLY among little sisters. :) (They seem to be a little more emotionally needy than some others...;)
But all in all, we had a great night.
Clint gave everyone a priesthood blessing, and we headed to bed before midnight! (It's a miracle, right? ;)
I look forward to this year, even amidst the constant changes that loom all around us...we are grateful for the opportunities ahead to minister like angels, wherever we may be, and whomever we are with.
