Krumkaka

Isn't it lovely how when you serve and love others you end up receiving more than you ever could give?
As we tried to #Lighthteworld this Christmas season, Clint and I both felt impressed to invite Mike and Joanne Huff over to our house for a nice Sunday dinner.
We had a nice time visiting and when our meal was over we sat in the front room even longer visiting some more!
Joanne took the time to read a story to my children about Christmas and it had a little Olaf "Frozen" flare, including him leaving a special plate of goodies for Santa Norwegian style! (Since that is where their story takes place. ;) The dessert that was left for Santa was called Krumkaka, which was a Norwegian pastry, rolled up and fragile but sweet and oh so yummy!
Joanne's grandmother was also from Norway and had passed down this family recipe of Krumkaka that they too had made from scratch! Mike and Joanne made a special batch for us and our kids and let us try it out and it was delicious! It reminded me of the taste of very thin waffle cones. It was such a fun and special treat and so sweet of them to share that with our family too.
So, the dinner we made, was received with gratitude and love and also a special dessert and an even more special memory for our family.
A perfect Christmas gift!

Merry Christmas!

The month of December has flown by, and today is Christmas! We have had such great fun while trying to #Lighththeworld, and remember our Savior in all of the details.
Gavin and his friends made a "Get Well" poster for a friend of theirs in our ward after a surgery he had on his hip, and I had fun helping them to try and do it while they were being sneaky too. ;)
Merry Christmas!!!

Our Candy Cane Christmas Tree

Today is Christmas Eve!
Our family has been so busy celebrating the holiday, spreading cheer, doing service, participating in fun activities, and loving on our family. This is a picture of our family's Christmas tree that we decorated for our ward/neighborhood Christmas party that was so different but SO awesome this year!
EVERY family in our neighborhood was gifted a wooden tree to decorate in any way they wanted, and this was how we chose to decorate ours!
Every tree was unique and full of love and out of about 120 homes in our ward, we had 110 families participate!!!
It was literally a Christmas miracle.
Our neighborhood  streets looked like Halloween night on a warm evening because there were so many people out walking around visiting, and looking at the trees. It FELT like Christmas and I loved it.
We have NEVER had a ward activity where so many people participated!
So what was it about THIS activity that got such a wonderful reaction???
Was it the pandemic year that needed to happen in order for us to reach out to EVERYONE in ways we never have before, that helped us get an outcome that we have never had before???
Whatever it was, we need more of THAT because IT feels like true Christmas spirit!

A Road Paved in Diamonds

Last Saturday I woke up with a certain person on my mind...Kaitlyn Tuttle. She is a former young woman of mine and it was her birthday.
Kaitlyn has had multiple surgeries and problems with her feet along the course of her life with her latest surgery being this past summer. When I said my prayers that morning I asked Heavenly Father what I could do for Kaitlyn that would make her feel extra special, and the thought came to me, "Take her to the Walking Comfort store and buy her some new shoes for her birthday!"
So, I texted her, she responded with such excitement, and later that day we went shopping together.
After some work and encouragement from the lady working there at the store, we ended up finding not one, but two pairs of shoes for Kaitlyn! (And she only owns one pair that she can fit her orthotics into so we were ecstatic! :) I also went home and ordered the shoes online that were her favorites, but that they didn't have in her size in the store.
Kaitlyn, her mom Diane, and I all had a great time laughing (and even crying because they were so happy and grateful) in the store, and now Kaitlyn has a black, a grey, and a white pair of comfy and cute shoes instead of just her one pair of black shoes.
It may not seem like much to some people, but I know that this was a special thing for Kaitlyn. I know what it feels like to have feet that always hurt, and I also know how important it is for a girl to feel cute and confident too...This was such a great way for me to show Kaitlyn that she is special and for her to have something that she daily can feel good about.
I love having opportunities to help Heavenly Father with the work of loving "the one" whoever that may be.
 It's different every day, :)
Also, I had to include this picture in my post because this same Saturday morning I had gone out for a run and as I rounded the corner I actually stopped in my tracks because I saw something so beautiful...
The picture doesn't do it justice because the camera can't capture all that the human eye can, but this bridge  that I had to cross looked as though it was paved in diamonds!!! :)
It was SO sparkly and shiny that I honestly felt taken back at what I was seeing.
I felt like Heavenly Father had said to me, "Good morning my princess!"
"Thank you for all you try to do to help others as you walk the earth on your mortal journey together. I love you." It's amazing how special I felt over something so simple as a frosty, snow covered bridge...
I saw it as a diamond road, which is exactly how I see this life. Cold and slippery at times, yes...but what an amazing view I have had walking this path of life with my eternal companion and family by my side.

Gift of Time, Gift of Home

Santa remains a busy dude this time of year and has delivered yet another Gift of Time, and another gift of "home." Home Alone!!!
We got this fun new book delivered in Santa's magic bag, and we read the story, and then watched the movie together as a family. :)
We LOVE being HOME together for the holidays!!!

#Lighttheworld ~ Kinley Style :)

I do not like drawing attention to myself, but find great joy in celebrating others and making people feel as special as they are. During the #Lighttheworld campaign this year my name sake Kinley Susette Anderson highlighted me as an example in her life. It made me feel grateful and loved, and I'm so blessed to have her and her momma in my life. I feel as though we were kindred spirits before we came to earth, and the unity and friendship that we have is deep, even everlasting.
I love you Kinley and Nicky!
Although I have been so far behind on my blog posts, here are some highlight photos of Kinley's 18th nirthday celebration here with us in Utah...
So fun, sweet, BEAUTIFUL, and amazing!!!!

The Gift of Time ~ The Gift of Home

The other day as we were sitting around the dinner table we began hearing noises coming from outside our front door...after Kambriella went to see what was going on, she came bouncing back in the room jumping and squealing, "THE GIFT OF TIME!!! THE GIFT OF TIME!!!"
Thank goodness.
Christmas is finally here!!! :)
My heart was warmed after reading Santa's letter to our family. Santa said that after watching us throughout this crazy year of the pandemic, he learned how much our family and our home meant to us, and so he left us a gift of time that would reinforce our togetherness and our time at home.
We found the cutest little gingerbread house complete with little Meleg mice and their furniture and accessories!
All of this was found in our sleigh hidden in Santa's big bag, and the kids were so happy to find that Santa had been sneaking around our house!
What a fun and sweet little gift to spend time together playing and enjoying some of the simple pleasures of childhood and being together at home.
I love these little toys, what a sweet treasure!
But most of all, I love the little smiles on the faces that come with the gift! Kesslyn and Kambriella have had a ball playing with this together...
..and even more fun sharing it with friends!
Thank you Santa for reminding us to enjoy the gift of getting to be at home together, and for spoiling us with your magic!
