Friday was so much fun for Kesslyn and me.
We got to go to the Thanksgiving Point Butterfly Biosphere together on her Activity Days field trip! :)
The funny thing is, I have an annual pass to Thanksgiving Point, but didn't even know that this part existed!
Her leader Stephanie Blaylock was the one to tell us about it, and when her other leader Angela Nelson had something else she needed to be at, I volunteered to go. It was SO much fun, and I'm so glad I got the chance to be there with Kesslyn!
When you go into the biosphere, you are allowed to touch the butterflies, but only with one finger on their body, as to not harm their wings. We tried and tried to be very still and catch one of our favorites, the bright blue butterflies, but they never did come to us, so we just watched those ones form a distance.
We watched them eat rotten bananas and fermented oranges, their favorites!
There was one little girl there that was walking around for a long time with a butterfly just sitting on her chest. After we saw her for the third time, and the butterfly was still there, we asked her how she got the butterfly to come to her? She smiled and said, "Well, I spilled ketchup on my shirt earlier, and I think it likes the ketchup!"
We were all laughing, and then were so happy when that little girl asked us if we wanted a turn to hold it, and so Kesslyn was so excited for a turn!
She was brave and took the butterfly with her finger, and then put it on her chest too!
The other little girl Britta that was there with us for the activity didn't want to hold it, but really enjoyed watching Kesslyn interact with it from a distance.
After a bit, the butterfly flew away and we wandered around looking for more beautiful butterflies to see...
Stephanie was able to catch one and let the girls hold it too...
They were so fun to watch and made me think so much of my dad...
Every time I see butterflies they remind me of our angels that are on the other side of the veil...
Kesslyn really LOVED holding them!
She said that it felt a little weird when it started crawling up her arm though...;)
As soon as it started crawling up her arm she squealed and it flew away...
...and then it came back and landed on me! ;)
After we were done looking at all of the butterflies, we went out into the play area and saw even more cool things to look at.
We all decided that the blue butterflies were our favorite!
This one was our most favorite one of all! So beautiful!
I also took this moment to testify to the little girls of how Jesus Christ made all of these beautiful things, and that He made them even more beautiful than the butterflies!
After that the girls played on the playground before we headed home.
Kesslyn said it was the BEST Activity Days ever!
The rest of the day for me was spent packing up for our vacation to Lake Tahoe. We would be leaving early in the morning and so there was a lot to do! But of course we always try to fit in the most important things, and so Clint and I made it to the temple for an 8:30pm appointment since we knew we would be gone for the rest of the week and wouldn't be able to go again until we get back.
It was the perfect way to spend the night, and to begin our Summer Break!
